Keihan Thomas & Friends papercraft stamp rally 2017-2018

On the absolutely fabulous travel documentary "Joanna Lumley's Japan", Joanna was so excited about the Japanese custom to collect stamps from the places you visit. ;o)

And it's not just for tourists: the Keihan Electric Railway company in Japan is starting a stamp rally for Japanese elementary school students!

If they collect stamps from 4 train stations on a special line, they can get a neat papercraft train with a Thomas and Friends decoration! ;o)

It will be a *long-running* event in 4 stages:

  • The first stage will be from April 28, 2017 - August 31, 2017, and elementary school students need to collect stamps from Hirakata, Katano, Kawachi-mori and Kisaichi stations, and then at the goal they will get the first locomotive.
  • The second stage will run from September 1, 2017 - January 31, 2018
  • The third stage from February 1, 2018 - June 30, 2018
  • And the fourth and final stage from July 1, 2018 - October 31, 2018

So there should be ample time to try and get all 4 papercraft train cars. ;o)

Now I'm not sure how travelling by train works exactly in Japan (even though I watched Joanna try it ;o) but the stamp points are outside the ticket gates, so they mention you need a special ticket that lets you check out and in again.

To be sure, check out the website and read all the ins and outs if you're a Japanese elementary school student (or know one ;o) to make sure you can collect all the stamps:

Have fun riding the trains and collecting the papercrafts! ;o)
