OnThisDay (2006): The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker King of Red Lions papercraft model!

The King of Red Lions from 2006 is one of the biggest papercraft models I made so far! ;o)

The King of Red Lions is both a character and a mode of transportation in The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker (if you want to know how it's possible for a boat to talk, just play the game ;o)

The mast alone is almost 45 cm tall, so it's best to print the big sail on thinner, regular printer paper instead of the same thicker paper you should use for the rest of the boat for strength.

If you're still not sure whether the mast will hold the weight of the sail, a good idea is to reinforce the mast on the inside while building it (people have used anything from thick, strong cardboard to wooden chopsticks! ;o)

An alternative solution (if you already built it so you can't reinforce it from the inside anymore) is to tie a string from the top of the mast to the neck of the figurehead to keep the mast upright.

Josh Darrah made a great alternative sea-base stand for this model, which you can download together with the parts and instructions for the boat itself from the Zelda section on my papercraft webpage:
Have fun building!
